Jessica A. Carlson, MA, NCC, LMHC is a board certified counselor by the National Board of Certified Counselors and is a licensed counselor in the State of Florida. She also is a Florida Board approved clinical supervisor for Registered Mental Health Counselor Interns.
Ms. Carlson graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. Following undergraduate school she earned a Master's Degree in Counseling from Oakland University. Ms. Carlson has practiced in a variety of settings from agencies to schools and universities to private practice.
Her specialites include helping children and adults to recover from grief, trauma, and anxiety; living with mood disorders; and career counseling. The utilization of play and art as a method of therapy are integrated into the psychotherapy as necessary with children. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is one particularly powerful method of psychotherapy in which Ms. Carlson is skilled, to help clients of all ages relieve many types of psychological distress. Spiritual issues are also aspects that can be integrated into counseling sessions.
In addition, Ms. Carlson is a crisis responder and a bereavement facilitator. She continues to earn other certifications and pursues various areas of ongoing education.
